How the Smart RAG App Works (High‑Level Flow)

The Smart RAG App follows a structured, Microsoft‑native AI pipeline:

PDF documents are uploaded through a user interface and sent to Azure Document Intelligence, where all text is extracted.

  1. Content processing & embeddings

Extracted content is broken into logical chunks and converted into embeddings using Azure OpenAI and Azure Text Embeddings, allowing semantic understanding of the data.

  1. Indexing & caching

Processed data is cached to optimize performance and control AI processing costs, ensuring scalability and efficiency.

  1. Natural language interaction

Users interact with the content through a natural language chat interface. Relevant content chunks are retrieved and sent to Azure OpenAI, which generates accurate, context‑aware responses.

This architecture allows users to ask questions in plain language and receive precise answers derived directly from their own documents.

  • Use find & replace to quickly update large question sets
  • Preview templates before execution and export them for reuse or sharing

In addition, we enhanced our search algorithm with visual intelligence. Pages with high graphical content are analyzed by a GPT‑4o‑mini model, which interprets visual elements and automatically adds descriptive tags (e.g., ID cards, certificates, charts), improving document classification and search accuracy.
