At .NEXT Nice we unveiled new developer-centric services to advance public cloud-like consumption models for enterprises. In this post, we’d like to share our perspective on bringing developers and IT closer – fostering better collaboration and increasing application agility – to produce dramatically better outcomes for the organization.

Some of the common objectives that developers and IT share are driving faster time-to-market, reducing response times and minimizing time spent addressing infrastructure meltdowns. However, as developers look to adopt bleeding edge technologies and resources on-demand, IT often lacks the tools needed to adequately enable application developers. Nutanix already provides an excellent platform for decreasing time-to-value by simplifying management, upgrades and scalability of IT resources. But can developers truly feel the impact of delivering services on top of the Nutanix platform? For example, would they be able to utilize the latest innovations in the world of containers, automating the provisioning of container platforms in order to focus on their dev efforts? This is where the Nutanix Marketplace comes in.

Empowering Self-Service – One Click, Any Cloud

Nutanix Marketplace will be delivered in our upcoming release planned for Q4 2017. It will provide developers with a single place to instantly consume the application resources they need in just one-click. Teams will be provided a variety of provisioning options specifically tailored to their needs, based on user role and group. Launching one of the apps from the Nutanix Marketplace will instantiate pre-defined flows that are included with the Marketplace, or custom flows that IT previously created, to automate the entire process – including VMs, binaries and necessary app configuration. In this way, developers are empowered to consume

services in a fully self-service manner at their own speed.

From IT’s perspective it’s not just about delivering better and faster services. Applications delivered from the marketplace are always executed in a repeatable way, eliminating the days and months devoted to routine application provisioning and management. All user activity is logged for end-to-end traceability, helping with troubleshooting and addressing compliance needs.

The Marketplace is designed with our open approach in mind. Developers will be able to select applications to be deployed on-premises, in public clouds or across both. As a result, IT is able to implement a multi-cloud strategy, while gaining visibility into the consumption and costs of resources across clouds.
